    Zip Shoes

For our honors project we intend to create a new urban mobility solution. They are called Zip Shoes; they will be a pair of shoes with built in propulsion. We plan to use our cumulative engineering knowledge to modify an existing pair of shoes such that they can safely propel the user on wheels. We hope to achieve this by adding an electric drive train and necessary structural components onto the shoes. We are pursuing this project because we have seen the popularity of other electronically driven personal transportation devices. These include the hover board, electric skateboards, and electric scooters. However, all of these devices are bulky and cannot be worn by the user when entering a building. We hope our design project fulfills this need for the end user. We also hope to maintain similar usability to the previously mentioned examples. Ultimately, the goal of this project is to deliver a fun and unique product that was designed using the skills we\u27ve obtained as mechanical engineering students at the University of Akron

Social and emotional aspects of World of Warcraft players

This quantitative research thesis investigated the social and emotional aspects of World of Warcraft (WOW) players through the use of an online survey. The sample consisted of 374 online survey respondents of which 215 were used in final data analysis. The survey investigated demographics, gameplay habits, social anxiety, anxiety, depression, loneliness, and self-esteem. A binary logistic regression found that class specialization, hours played, social anxiety severity, and depression severity were predictive of internet gaming disorder (IGD). A univariate ANOVA found there was significant interaction effects between the constructs of depression, anxiety, social anxiety, and IGD. The results suggest that IGD is not wholly influenced by a specific disorder but instead by the person’s mental health in general, however, social anxiety was significantly associated after accounting for interaction effects. The researcher concluded that treatment of IGD requires attention to comorbid social and emotional aspects and the ecosystem of comorbidity in which they exist

The formation of the National Center for Advancing Translational Sciences (NCATS) brings new promise for moving basic and discoveries to clinical practice, ultimately improving the health of the nation. The CTSA sites, now housed with NCATS, are organized and prepared to support in this endeavor. The CTSAs provide a foundation for capitalizing on such promise through provision of a disease-agnostic infrastructure devoted to C&T science, maintenance of training programs designed for C&T investigators of the future, by incentivizing institutional reorganization and by cultivating institutional support
